Men behaving badly: A man walking his dog in Yorkville drew the ire of a father who didn’t appreciate him yelling at his kids to keep them from running up and trying to pet her, Wednesday. The father claimed the man threatened to release his dog, but denied a physical altercation. Another parent said she heard the dog’s owner yell at the kids to stay away and her boyfriend went with the other man to speak with him about yelling at the children, and admitted her boyfriend mentioned having a gun on his person but denied him brandishing it or threatening the dog’s owner. The dog’s owner said several children came running up and while his dog is usually good around people, he didn’t feel comfortable allowing them to pet her, so he yelled at them to stay back. He said the two men were upset he’d yelled at the kids, and the younger one grabbed his waistband and told him he had a gun and threatened to shoot his dog if he turned her loose, but he said he didn’t threatened him with it.
Break in: A Dillonvale property was burgled, Aug. 21. Family members said the side door was forced open.
Surprised driver: A Chevy Tahoe parked across from Indian Creek Elementary School with its flashers on was towed, Thursday. Deputies said the vehicle, registered to a Pennsylvania driver, appeared to have run out of gas but it had expired plates, was blocking a fire hydrant and was halfway on the road and the operator was nowhere in sight. It was towed.
Booked: Simon Edward Randolph, 70, 24 Emmett St., Mingo Junction, obstructing official business. Deputies said Randolph, formerly of Harrison County, lived in Mingo Junction for three months before reporting to the sheriff’s office to register his new address; Derek Stewart, 33, no fixed address, failure to register change of address. Stewart is a Tier III sex offender.
Blame game: A Sherman Avenue resident told police his former roommate stole his iPhone when he came to pick up his belongings, Wednesday. The former roommate denied having the phone, but claims “all of his belongings that were in … the apartment are no longer there.”
Fed up: A Sunset Boulevard businessman told police Wednesday he’s having trouble with children cussing at and threatening his employees and customers when they cut through his lot after school.
Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners of properties at 501 Hill Ave., 448 Spring Ave., 436 Spring Ave., and a vacant lot at 539 S. Fifth St., all high grass/weeds; 653 Adams St., a vacant lot that smells of urine overflowing with garbage, beer cans and clothing hanging in the trees, litter.
Concerning: A man laying on the steps of the old College of Steubenville building in the 400 block of Washington Street told police he was homeless, Wednesday. He said he had to wait 28 days before he could go back to the mission for another 30-day stay.
Callers complained of individuals camping out at the corner of Seventh and Adams streets and said a man in a blue hoodie was urinating, Wednesday. Upon arriving, officers spotted one man in a red shirt who was advised to leave the area. There was “a trash can on site that was overflowing with trash, as well as numerous beer cans and bottles scattered all over the vacant lot,” police said.
